A complaint has been lodged with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and relevant authorities over the sale of 35 per cent of the gas from the Spinwam Gas Field by Mari Energies Ltd to entities that the complainant alleges are unlicensed.

The petition seeks an inquiry by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) into the pricing, allocation and end-use of the field's output, citing potential losses to the national exchequer.

Industry sources said the matter could test the regulator's handling of third-party gas sales at a moment when the government is racing to plug a widening circular debt in the energy sector.
