More than 1,500 personnel of the Islamabad Capital Police are to be deployed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on security duty, according to a notification issued this week.
The contingent will support local law-enforcement agencies during a sensitive period in the region. Capital Police officials said the deployment had been planned to ensure essential services in Islamabad were not compromised.
Senior officers, however, conceded that traffic management and beat-policing in several sectors will operate on reduced strength while the deployment lasts.
